St John's Beacon was built in 1968, and was intended as a ventilation shaft for the shopping centre below it.

It also had a revolving restaurant and a viewing platform. However the bearings seized up on the restaurant, and the whole thing was shut after a fire in 1977.

It now houses the studios of Radio City, Liverpool's main commercial radio service, and also houses a wide array of aerials.

One of the clock towers of the Liver Building can be seen on the right-hand side of this photograph.
