I chop down my buddleia bush every two or three years to stop it from growing on old wood. This tends to encourage more flowers the next season, which can only be good from the point of view of attracting bees and butterflies (although butterflies are far less numerous than they used to be).

I tried getting a photograph of a butterfly on this, but after I'd dashed into the house to get the camera and put the batteries back in it, I didn't see a single one for the rest of the afternoon.
