The Great North Western Hotel in Lime Street was completed in 1867 with the intention of accomodating travellers using the adjacent Lime Street station.

After years of neglect, it was bought and renovated by Liverpool John Moores University (formerly Liverpool Polytechnic), and now houses about 250 students, along with a bar and restaurant on the ground floor.

Above is the view from the south side of St George's Hall.
