Penrhos Engine House in about 1988. Built in the late 18th century by John Wilkinson to pump water out of his small coal-mine in the immediate vicinity.

The building stood totally derelict for many years, but has been partly restored in recent years.

This extravagantly large road sign now greets you as you drop down the eastern side of Penrhos:
