There are few finer sights in architecture and design than a good suspension bridge, and this is a nifty little number if ever there was one.

The Queen's Park Suspension Bridge carries pedestrians over the River Dee just upstream of The Groves, linking the city to the suburb whose name the bridge bears.

It's the second bridge on this site, the first having been demolished in 1922 after seventy years of existence. This one, designed by Charles Greenwood, was opened the following year.

When I was a kid, a walk across this bridge was a must on our rare family visits to the city. I still feel that a visit is incomplete without crossing it.
