Tune Named, or On With The Parade!
Following on from this, I'm delighted (and relieved) to report that I have finally tracked down my tormentor.
Many thanks to my fellow 45catters LouisSidney and KeithS for pointing me in the direction of the Brazilian Samba A Banda, composed by Francisco Buarque de Hollanda in 1966.
It was famously recorded as an instrumental by Herb Alpert and his Tijuana Brass the next year, but the version I remembered had English lyrics with a female singer.
I found it! It's by Astrud Gilberto and - under the title A Banda (Parade) - was released the same year as Herb's version.
I'd like to share it with you all now, thanks to another 45catter, Henry29. Anyway, mystery solved!
