Burning Zeal
It was the great Lenny Bruce who pointed out the incongruity which would have faced that nice Jewish boy from Nazareth if he were to come back today and see all of those people who claimed to be his followers proudly wearing miniature versions of the instrument of his execution around their necks.
He went on to speculate as to whether - had Jesus been put to death in the USA of the thirties and forties - little Catholic boys and girls would be going around wearing little silver or gold electric chairs on chains.
Which leads me to wonder: if that had happened, would today have been renamed 'Fried Goodie'?
