Words To Fight The Darkness
OK, I've now given up all pretence at not mentioning the referendum in Scotland again until after it's all over.
With that in view, I commend two pieces to you today.
First off is this magisterial piece by George Monbiot, one of the very, very few journalists writing in the corporate press who really does seem to 'get' what this vote is actually all about. And his piece from the week before is worth your time, too.
Secondly (or, I suppose, thirdly) is a composition by Paul Kavanagh, aka Wee Ginger Dug, in which he sends up the prominent gobs of the Nay-sayers in a flight of exuberant and superbly-styled invective which might have drawn applause from Dunbar himself. And this all the more remarkable from a man who is currently in deep grief from the death of his partner Andy scarcely a week ago.
