The Five Blobs - "The Blob" (1958)
OK, let's end a generally shitty month with something really silly.
(It's my earworm, and I'll make it yours if I want to).
This is the title song from the 1958 horror movie of the same name. There are two fascinating facts about it that I'll tell you after you've bent your shell-likes to it:
Right then, fact fans! Eyes down...
- FF #1: All the voices and effects on that record are provided by one man, Columbia-contracted singer Bernieneeneeneenee...erm, sorry, I forgot how to stop; I mean Bernie Nee. Multitracked, of course; talented he may have been, that talented he couldn't have been,
- FF #2: The song is a Bacharach and David composition. But not that Bacharach and David. Well, it is that Bacharach, the wonderful Burt who provided the straights and squares with the soundtrack to their Sixties; but it's not Hal David providing the somewhat minimal lyrics. Instead, it's Hal's elder brother Mack, with whom Bacharach collaborated a few times before hitting gold dust with his kid sibling.
Now, that was interesting wasn't it?
