"Waiting For The Tide To Return"
A year ago today, just about enough of the voting public in Scotland allowed themselves - through varying percentages of Establishment-encouraged fear, unwitting ignorance and dumb tribalism - to reject the best chance they were likely to have to spare their country the ravages of hyper-corporate slash-and-burn and footling mediaeval arrogance.
The Unionists - being largely a load of cocks - crowed loudly, of course. They thought that they had seen off the 'threat' of 'separatism' forever. But in May of this year, the people of Scotland showed that - far from being bowed, they had been not so much 'bloodied' as 'blooded', and that they were not going to be pushed back into the shortbread tin of convenient Brigadoonery.
With that in mind, I recommend this column from Paul Kavanagh (who blogs with great eloquence and spleen as the Wee Ginger Dug here) from today's issue of The National, who charts his own and his nation's journey in the last twelve months or so.
