Oh, Brother!

It's my brother Brian's birthday today.

It's one of the Big Ones, one of those ending in a '0'. He wouldn't thank me for telling you which one; all I can say is that it's strange to consider that I have a brother who is sev... oh, shit!...

Despite having to battle with ill-health, including the industrial injury which prevented him from working past his mid-forties, he spent nearly thirty years as a community councillor, still takes part in a variety of voluntary tasks for the community at large, and is there at all times as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law and neighbour. The sort of person we would be better off with having more of (although the bureaucrats and other bullshitters he deals with on a regular basis might not necessary agree).

I certainly know that his indefatigable support over the last few months has been crucial to whatever sense of well-being I may now have.

So, to prevent my getting really soppy about it, I'll just say, "Happy birthday, bro!"
